Growth in the Garden of the Awakened Life Project

By Marko Maitz

Coming to the Awakened Life Project a while ago, I was only interested in one thing: Is this place really about Awakened Life ? Does this Project really live up to its name?

… I started my journey to Portugal with the commitment of following my interests: I had dedicated the last years of my life mostly to Yoga practice and experiments in Permaculture (“permaculture” in the widest sense of the word) before it got clear to me how essential the company of like minded people was …

When I first arrived at Quinta the Mizarela I was impressed by the natural beauty of the mountain valley, the waterfalls and the clear air full of energy, but what really excited me was to directly experience what this place is all about – it got crystal clear for me that I had come to the absolutely right place! Staying Conscious in the Context

By Scott Marecek

Wow, I have no idea where to start! So many things I want to share. I came to the Awakened Life Project on an interesting note, as an intern wanting to learn about sustainable agriculture from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. I knew there was meditation and that was also something I was interested in. But what I got was beyond anything I could have ever imagined, an absolute change of being and consciousness!!

Another amazing meal!

Another amazing meal!

I remember the emails back and forth with Cynthia as I was arranged my stay. I kept telling her how excited I was to come and she kept saying, “Please read our Vision page so you know what to expect.” I think she knew exactly the kind of energetic, crazy, and completely out of control person I was at the time. I read the Vision but never understood the deep deep meaning of what was going on at Quinta da Mizarela. Thank God I didn’t really know because my ego might have turned me around and been scared to death of the real change that was in store for me! Continue reading →

A Healthy Integral Evolutionary Lifestyle

By Joanna Abernethy

I think the thing that grabbed me when I first heard about The Awakened Life Project was the fact that there were these people living in a remote area in a far away country (Portugal) who’d specifically chosen to set up a community to live and put into practice a way of life that expressed truth and goodness, and ongoing evolution.  Don’t we all long for that and hope that somewhere in the world people are actually living it?

Well how wonderful and refreshing it is to find that they are, and even before I got there I knew they were!   There was something about the freshness in the writings on the website, it had a presence and a pull, probably even unbeknownst to those who live there.  Another thing that grabbed me about the description and photos of the Project, were the tumbling waterfalls.  From my experience, there are water holes in the world that have a purifying effect, and especially waterfalls, so I was instantly drawn to the idea of  swimming in these beautiful falls! Obliterating Self Consciousness

By Glen Friedman

Returning to the Awakened Life Project this July felt more like coming home ever has, even coming from the country I grew up in. I had been living and working in New York City for the previous eight months and was very happy to be back in this beautiful valley.

It amazed me to see how much the project had developed in the time I was away. The level of interest in what is happening here is growing rapidly, and fortunately the capacity has been expanding at the same time to allow more people to come and experience it.

But as I settled back into a more wholesome way of life, I began to notice a restriction in myself that did not feel right. I did not speak much during meals or when everyone was together. I felt like I did not have anything to say, and felt frustrated at that because I wanted to participate. Continue reading →

Living from a Deep Ease of Being

By Caroline van Veggel

I was very fortunate to be able to visit the Awakened Life Project this summer. I knew Cynthia and Pete Bampton from years ago when we all discovered spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen who inspired us profoundly with his example of how to live an evolutionarily enlightened life. We lost contact for some time and then out of nowhere I saw them on Facebook and made contact. After some email exchanges they invited me to visit them and so at the beginning of August I arrived in the beautiful area of Benfeita, Portugal.

I was very impressed by what I saw at the Awakened Life Project. A beautiful green mountain and everything had a deep ease, I had no idea that such a beauty would exist in real time and space and not only in a movie! Continue reading →
