About Glen

I was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Illinois and Connecticut, where I was always trying to find something to do with my passion. As a kid I spent my time dreaming up projects and creating businesses, and as my perspective grew these evolved into community based environmental projects. From a young age I was always interested in the big picture. I always questioned “the system” and saw the way people were living as unsustainable. I didn’t understand why people wanted to live the way that they were. I knew that life had a purpose and seeking for the truth was all that really mattered. In high school I was never really interested in college because I saw it as the next step in a game that I didn’t want to be a part of. I wanted to travel, learn and teach but somehow ended up in New York, studying engineering at a state University.
Half way through the first semester I decided for sure that it wasn’t the place for me. What struck me the hardest was that it seemed like most of the faculty and the staff were working against each other in their own self interest. How can you learn in a place like that? So I took a step in the direction of my heart. I wanted to learn about permaculture and sustainable practices, and was very intrigued by the idea of Conscious Evolution. I knew I wanted to pursue this and live a peaceful wholesome and healthy life. This gave me the idea to WWOOF across Europe, a continent I had never been to, to visit communities and get a better idea of this way of life. I randomly chose Portugal as a landing point, I knew nothing about it!
When I came across the Awakened Life Project site, I knew I had to go there. It was everything I was looking for in one place. I was blown away by the whole idea and really resonated with the vision, and was eager to meet people who were on the same page.
I left New York in January of 2010 and came to the project a month later, almost certain I wanted to be a part of it from the first day. I planned to WWOOF here for one month, which quickly turned into four. I changed so much and learned so much about who I really was, and felt like I was a part of the project as it kept evolving and growing. In June I took a hitchhiking trip up to Norway and back down, but wasn’t too interested in any other projects I had found along the way. I looked forward to my return to Portugal!
In September I returned to the project with the intention of becoming a part of it. It was an easy decision. I couldn’t ask more from life than to be in such support of my own evolution, to be a part of an amazing evolving project with unlimited potential, and to live with people I love who make up this rock solid core group with a clear vision.
